The adjustment to college can be exciting and fresh, as well as overwhelming and challenging. The workload, social pressures, and future planning can make it difficult to navigate the every-day life of a college student. If you are of college age, roughly 19 through 23, and feel that you are struggling to keep up with college demands, have taken a leave of absence, and/or have trouble managing your emotional coping skills this program can help.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an empirically validated treatment for persons who suffer from out-of-control emotions and engage in risky, impulsive, or self-destructive behaviors. Additionally, DBT skills are insightful, empowering, and life-enhancing for anyone who is open to improving their emotional intelligence and getting more of what they want out of their lives. This college program meets every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and runs for 8 weeks.
Over the course of the group, an individual will learn how to handle stressful situations, such as failure, rejection, anxiety, peer pressure, and conflict, effectively and appropriately. One will also learn how to reduce the intensity of emotions, feel empowered to change emotions you want to change, and learn ways to build more meaningful, fulfilling, and enriching relationships with both parents and peers. This is a fee-for-service program.
